The national long-stay visa allows the entry and stay of foreigners on the territory of Romania for a period not exceeding 90 days.
It allows foreigners entering Romania to request the Ministry of Administration and Interior - General Inspectorate for Immigration to extend the right of temporary residence and to obtain a residence permit. The extension of the right to stay in Romania is requested at least 30 days before the expiration of the validity of the long-stay visa.
It is granted only with the prior approval of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - General Inspectorate for Immigration.
The deadline for settling a long-stay visa is, as the case may be, up to 60 days. The deadline for solving the applications for long-stay visas for employment and secondment, for which the prior employment / secondment notice was obtained from the Ministry of Internal Affairs - General Inspectorate for Immigration, is 10 days from the date deposit.
Exceptions to the obligation to obtain a long-stay visa:
Citizens of the Member States of the European Union or of the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein) and the Swiss Confederation may apply to the Ministry of the Interior - General Inspectorate for Immigration to extend their right of temporary residence and to obtain a residence permit without fulfilling the requirement to hold a long-stay visa.
